Please Don’t Feed the Animals…Pepperoni

Ben the Office Dog had a rough week.   Last Friday everyone brought junky snacks in and didn’t have the good sense to keep them to themselves.  Ever since Ben came to us, OneL has been feeding him all manner of dog snacks.

On Friday I called her out for peeling pepperoni off her pizza and feeding it to him, and made her stop it.   Turns out Weens had given him some crust.   A visiting coworker from another office was stopped by Hondista when she wanted to give Ben a cupcake!

In their defense, Hondista, Ben’s owner,  has given him fast food burgers and chicken nuggets.   I have spoken up against this repeatedly.  Hondista found some really good dog food and started him on a new regimen a couple of weeks ago, because he was having a lot of gas, but she didn’t put her foot down with coworkers.

What happens when 80% of the office slips the pup contraband treats?  I’ll spare you all the details between Ben throwing up on Friday night and him being on an IV all day Tuesday to get rehydrated after not being able to keep anything down for 24 hours.

He appears to be all right now.  It cost Hondista more than $800 to learn this lesson.  I helped her draft an email to our lovely coworkers thanking them for their love and concern and telling them not to feed Ben anything any more .
