R.I.P. Papoo’s Hot Dog Show

I found out that Papoo’s Hot Dog Show was closing it’s doors forever too late to go wish the staff a fond farewell.  This little diner has been in Toluca Lake/Burbank since 1949 and it’s always had its own particular charm.   The things they did well, like their breakfast burritos and veggie Reubens piled with avocado they did like no one else.

Rumor has it that an Italian restaurant may be taking Papoo’s place.  I have a bad feeling that they’ll raze the place and put in something with no charm at all.  Partly because of things like this.  This is the unisex bathroom, which you have to leave the restaurant to get to.  This area doesn’t need another pricey Italian place.

Papoo’s and the morning server, Maria, will be missed!  Here’s what the L.A. Times had to say about it.

OH! It’s always so sad when the great old places go! I’m sorry for all of you, especially waitress Maria Cavalluzzi and owner Leona Gardner. Thanks, Sundry, for including the LA Times link.

Wasn’t it great that the Times put Maria’s photo in the article? She deserves a lot of credit for making that a great place!
