Then we went on to see Merlin Snider play at the West Valley Music Center. Merlin’s songs have always been good, but somehow keep getting better. It sounds like roots music, but the lyrics have a modern edge, honesty and sense of humor.
For an excellent example of what I’m talking about, go to his website, click on RECORDINGS and check out “Mama Don’t Work Here.” Starts out clever and doesn’t stop until it hits meaningful smack in the middle of the forehead.
Debbie Snider provided seamless sometimes echoing harmonies and percussion, as usual. But she’s always moving and hard for me to capture on camera.
Oh, and guess what? They are also very good people.
Wonderful night out.
