The Sane Choice for Lunch: Tofu or Spam? You Decide.

Far be it from me to editorialize about how one should eat.  I haven’t eliminated all the bad stuff from my diet, but I do try to eat healthily most of the time.

Like today for lunch, I fixed this nice bowl of buckwheat soba noodles with tofu, kale and peanuts that were sauteed in soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger and garlic.  Mmm, happy Sundry.

Hydra, on the other hand, fried up some can-fresh Spam for lunch and had it on whole wheat sourdough bread with pickles, ketchup and mayonnaise.  Perhaps he is channeling those early French couriers du bois who traded in the Midwest before there were states there, who would have loved to peddle this stuff.

Upon taking a closer look at the Spam can I see that it actually has very few ingredients: Pork with ham, salt, water, modified potato starch, sugar and sodium nitrate.  And it’s gluten free.

What’s your call?  Tofu or Spam, or somewhere in the middle?

The sodium nitrate is not good.

Tofu is ridiculously tasteless, but it adds healthy protein & you can spice it up by combining it with tasty foods, as you did. That’s my vote!

I agree, try to eat healthy.
However, tens years in the infantry, spam has found its way in my rucksack several times.
    Just to funny.

  3. Hydra says:

If you could only make tofu taste like Spam, then you’d have something.

  4. Both! Neither should exclude the other. And I say a tofu/Spam marriage is one made in heaven.

  5. Sundry says:

I like this balanced approach, folks. Never say never. Spam doesn’t particularly appeal to me, but it’s definite earthquake kit material.

  6. what about tofu with a little spam inside, chinese noodles, vegetables, garlic and onions sauteed in sesame seed oil and a touch of ginger…viola

really enjoy your sense of humor in the different stories printed.

My vote is for something in between…eating lots of veggies is about as healthy as I seem to get. But whatever you eat, it obviously helps to be a little bit crazy, you two! ( Looking at these pictures, one does have to wonder how Miss Beautiful Blue Eyes and Weird Scary Man ever got together! )

Ha! Yes, the truth is somewhere in the middle, for sure, and that’s the best I can do anyway. It struck us how far apart these two meals seemed as we were cooking them, and then the photos got a little editorial. The crazy photo was Hydra’s idea and then the angelic vegan one was mine. 😀
