Chileo-ing Out

Hydra and I drove up to Chileo Flats Campground in the Angeles National Forest on Sunday afternoon. This tree and I got along really well.

Another big tree. Downed by that invasive beetle, maybe? There were a lot of burnt skeletons of trees on the drive up. So sad. The pines don’t come back as quickly as some types of trees.

This is the scene of our first camping trip together, with Songmakers, way back in 1998. We bought a tent and headed up the mountain. It was a great introduction to the club that has become such a big part of our lives. Sitting around the camp fire at night singing? Any time.

It was a good day for a drive in the mountains.  Took about an hour to get up there and another to get back. Winding like this much of the way.  Just rocks, and sky and roadside wildflowers most of the time.
